The PMA or Personal Managers' Association was founded in 1980 and is a non-profit
organisation that was formed to assist and further the best interests of its member in their
endeavours to promote and manage the employment of their clients. The PMA
CONSTITUTION was proposed and accepted on 15 April 1991 and revised in October
2005.
A PERSONAL MANAGER is responsible for the specialised development and
management of the careers of a specific group of artistes who have sufficient
formal training and/or professional experience to enable them to work
professionally as performers in the entertainment industry (this may also include
talented individuals who lack the relevant training and/or experience, but who, in
the expert opinion of the Personal Manager/Agent, have the potential to earn a
living as a professional artiste). A Personal Manager also fulfills the role of AGENT
for his/her group of artistes, i.e. negotiating fees and handling relevant legal
documents on behalf of the artistes, as well as ensuring that the administrative
and financial sides of their careers are taken care of.
Membership status is determined by the following criteria ...
• A FULL MEMBER is a person from an Agency/Management that fully complies with the
Codes, Ethics and Policies of the PMA. • An AFFILIATE MEMBER is an Agency/Management that does not fully comply with the
Codes, Ethics and Policies of the PMA, but who does comply with almost all the criteria as
laid down by the PMA.
• AN ASSOCIATE of the PMA can be any Agency that represents professional performing
artistes, but who does not comply with the majority of the Codes, Ethics and Policies of the
PMA. Associate status is also given to agencies that have been operational for less than one
year.
• A LIFE MEMBER is a full member who is so elected by a unanimous vote of the Executive
Committee. The bestowing of Life Membership on a candidate is in recognition for outstanding
services rendered to the PMA and is sparingly awarded. A Life Member is free from liability
for future annual subscriptions but is entitled to the benefits of Full Membership for as long as he/she shall live or until he/she chooses to resign or retire. |
